Recital: Opening Night Recap

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the opening night celebrations of Joy Rong Chen’s Recital—a multimedia art exhibition hosted by ZDS Creative!

The opening of Recital debuted a reunion of paintings featuring Joy Chen’s Bobbies—tiny, fluffy baby clowns, inspired by the tragic fool, Pierrot, and the vigorous, red-blooded children of 20th century Chinese propaganda posters. Both Pierrot and the poster children contain Inherent Contradictions: the clown who brings joy is also the long-suffering loner; the vibrant depictions of a world coexist with its sinister reality structure. Recital brought together everything of the Bobbies that Joy has to show; mixing first character study paintings with most recent stone-carved Bobbie busts.

For those who missed opening night, Recital will be on view at 85 West Street now through August 22nd, Tuesday - Saturdays during our open store hours.
